We Live Among Strangers

We evolved living in tribes, knowing everyone and related to most of them, through blood or partnerships.  Nowadays we live among strangers and this does not fit with the way our brains work.  People move away from their families for work, live isolated in unfamiliar cities or foreign countries and make “friends” through social media or at work or through alcohol.  Talking of alcohol, the Zurich Street Parade (photos on my photoblog) was a success this year, a drunken gathering of 950,000 strangers united through the common heartbeat of techno music.  It was a lovely warm, sunny day. The feeling was good early on, turning aggressive later on as the alcohol really took hold.  Afterwards people returned to their lonely and isolated lives.  There are no tribes anymore, not really.
