There has been an argument around for some time in the USA to say that being gay is a choice and that being obese is genetic.
This is simply the wrong way round, there is some good evidence of genetic factors which influence sexual preference and considerable anecdotal support. As for obesity, genetics might give a predisposition and some people may be obese due to medical conditions but the vast majority of affected people chose to eat what they ate and have become obese through their own actions and choices.
Similarly there is a more recent tendency, again in the USA, to say that gender does not exist but is a social construct. Race on the other hand does exist, say many Americans.
Again this is simply the wrong way around. Gender does exist and there is overwhelming scientific evidence of this. A few people do not fit easily into the male/female split but these are exceptions. Real as they may be, they do not change the rule. Race, on the other hand, has very little basis in modern science. Older science did categories people into races but this so-called science has been superseded, science improved as it goes along. Now science cannot see any genetic basis for traditional racial grouping. Black, white, Asian etc are social constructs. Obviously yes there are variations in skin colour, facial characteristics, average height and many characteristics around the world. However dividing this spectrum of diversity into a few convenient buckets is a social construct with no basic in genetics.
